LA Workin': Our Community Service Involvement & How You Can Volunteer

bgreen is excited to announce that we have teamed up with LA WORKS as their official apparel sponsor to raise funds for their projects. L.A. Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects - like painting murals,  planting gardens, and restoring buildings -  throughout the greater Los Angeles area. They empower Angelinos to address pressing social issues through volunteerism and community collaborations. LA Works offers individuals and organizations opportunities for volunteering that improves our communities and impacts it in a positive way.

In the next few weeks, you will have a chance to buy custom designed organic cotton Tees available on Fashion For Causes section of our website. All the proceeds from the sale of these shirts will be donated to LA WORKS. It is a great shirt for a great cause, buy one and make a difference.

Speaking of community service, join us and thousands of volunteers on Saturday July 30th for a large scale project in Leimert Park Village to support the community’s efforts to make this hidden landmark an incubator for the continued development and preservation of African American art, culture, entrepreneurship and economic development in Los Angeles. Leimert Park has monthly Arts Walk and a homegrown music and arts festival each summer, this underserved community is working to become a hip LA destination, and the upcoming community event aims to give it the extra boost that it needs. bgreen will provide organic cotton tees for the volunteers and volunteer-leaders. If you'd like to sign up for the event, click here.

Volunteer Leaders Tees:
For those volunteer leaders who have already signed up for a project with LA WORKS and need to get their T-shirt, please send us an email with the subject “Volunteer Leader Tee” and the following information:

LA Works Earth Day Event a Huge Success!

This weekend in the City of Watts, California, bgreen  along with over 100 volunteers joined together to celebrate the Earth Day 2011, by transforming an empty lot to a beautiful community garden.  Our dedicated volunteer teams pulled weeds, picked up trash, built trenches and painted over graffiti stained walls. The end result was a very charming garden, where residents have reserved plots to grow fruits and vegetables.

It’s amazing to see what a great impact a small but dedicated group of people can have on the environment.  We are happy to have been a part in this amazing event and be able to give back to our community.

More pictures and videos coming soon!  Stay updated by following our News & Events page.

Earth Day of Service 2011

On Saturday, April 23, 2011 corporate and community members will celebrate Earth Day in collaboration with the L.A. Community Garden Council. Volunteers will partake in an environmental service project to create a community garden and upgrade an existing garden area. The community garden is in a residential neighborhood in Watts, less than 3-miles from an L.A. Historic Cultural Monument, the Watts Towers. Activities for the existing garden include planting native, drought resistant species around electrical towers and along the fence perimeters. Activities for the new garden include extending the height of an existing fence, clearing bushes, turning the soil and installing a faucet/spigot irrigation system. Volunteers will also remove graffiti on bordering walls, newly protected by the extended fence.

As part of our commitment to environmental causes and support of local communities, we have teamed up with LA Works to be part of this amazing event.

bgreen will be bringing a team of volunteers to this event and as the official apparel sponsor of LA Works, we will be handing out custom made Organic Cotton T-shirt to all registered volunteers and volunteer leaders.

Stay tuned for picture and video updates.

Tips for an Eco Friendly New Year

Now that 2011 is here, we’ve made some green new year’s resolutions that we’ll be following. Try it yourself for a very green 2011!

Put some clothes on for pete sakes: Rather than turning up your heater, put an extra layer on, or snuggle up under a blanket. Hot drinks such as tea will also help you warm up (try to use a microwave more than an oven as much more heat will be saved). You’ll appreciate it the next time your gas bill comes.

Birds need water too: It’s hard for our little flying friends to find sources of drinking water during the cold months. When all the water is frozen, take a few minutes to break the ice in your bird baths, or put out a fresh bowl of water. You may make some pretty “fly” new neighbors.

Your first name doesn’t have to be ‘Robert’ to plant: If the ground isn’t too hard from frost, you can plant your seeds early to see a beautiful garden of color by spring time. Butterflies, bees and hummingbirds will thank you.

Walking is so hot right now: Ditch the car and take a hike! Walking your kids to school, or with neighbors in your area will help you do your part in cutting gas fumes and emissions. Who doesn’t love some fresh air?!

Whatever you plan to do in 2011, make a few steps to become more aware of the environment and lead a happier, healthier life.
